Brush pickup and the Longview compost site

What the city takes at the curb and at the gate.

A single pine can produce a mountain of limbs. Before getting quotes, it helps to know what the City of Longview will take, because "leave the brush at the curb" is often cheaper than "haul everything."

The compost site

The City of Longview Compost Site is at 2020 Swinging Bridge Road, open Tuesday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (hours may vary on holidays); the phone is 903-237-2735. Stop at the main gate for directions to the current dumping spot, and don't leave plastic bags.

The residential page doesn't say whether a contractor working for a resident counts as a resident or a hauler. Ask the site before your contractor plans on a free drop.

Storm years fill it up

In July 2024, after the remnants of Hurricane Beryl, city spokesman Richard Yeakley told KLTV the site was near capacity. The site handles about 100,000 cubic yards of material a year plus about 40,000 cubic yards of storm debris, and the city said it was looking to move away from burning and hire a company to chip or grind debris a few times a year.

Living outside Longview?

The free residential drop-off is tied to an active Longview residential sanitation account. In Kilgore, White Oak, Hallsville or Gladewater, ask your own city what it collects, or plan for the contractor to haul.

Common questions

Will the city take a whole tree?

The bulky item service takes branches 3 to 10 feet long, up to 8 cubic yards per pickup. Logs over 24 inches across are too big for the compost site.

Does the compost site take stumps?

Its page lists grass, trees, leaves and garden waste but doesn't mention stumps. Call 903-237-2735 to ask.

Have the tree looked at

Phone the number or use the form; a tree contractor from the Longview area returns the call and arranges to see the job. There's no fee for asking.
